If edgy and romance had a baby, I’m certain it would look like this candle-lit Thompson Landry Gallery wedding. Binh Tam and Daniel are the most easy-going, honest and down-to-earth people I know and it’s been great to party with them on their special day!

I’ve been blessed to work with some incredible people and witness the most cherished and important days of their lives. It’s an honor to meet each and every single one of my couples and have a chance to document their wedding day.

When Binh Tam and Daniel initially came to Mango Studios they confessed right on the spot, “I am attracted to your style of photography, it seems to be the most natural with lighting and composition,” Binh Tam said. “Your photos look editorial and natural at the same time and I love the candid moments you capture!.”

It’s great to work with a couple who knows exactly what they want. Hearing what they love about my work encourages me to put my best foot forward. As Binh Tam loved soft, naturally-lit photos against architectural backdrops I knew the University of Toronto would be the right wedding photo location for these two.

I’m so glad we had a chance to hit two of my favorite University of Toronto spots for their wedding portraits; the ever so photogenic Knox College and the Soldiers’ Tower. I really love architectural photography and how it uses lines to frame the composition. This type of photography is so powerful when you add a subject and capture movement to add softness to the often structured backdrop. This is exactly what we did with Binh Tam and Daniel. I loved how Binh Tam’s soft veil looked against the gothic style of the University of Toronto, while their florals added a welcome pop of color to the scene. We finished with their wedding party photos at the Knox College and then drove to their wedding reception at the Distillery District.

When I asked Binh Tam about what inspired them for their wedding, without a hesitation she told me: “Our venue!” As it turned out, they were originally planning an all-white affair but changed their mind once they saw The Thompson Landry Gallery. “Initially, I was set on having a traditional white floral wedding.” said Binh Tam. “However, after falling in love with the modern and colorful Thompson Landry Gallery space we decided not to compete with the natural ambiance of the venue and went all in for the rich and colorful drama!”

As a wedding photographer, this kind of vibrant, jewel-toned drama is what I live for! With the help of the talented Kari Lywood from Kari Lywood Events, Binh Tam and Daniel transformed their Thompson Landry Gallery wedding into an intimate, candle-lit affair. The deep, saturated burgundy florals echoed the venue’s artworks and the dramatic black and gold accents grounded the decor for the balanced and sophisticated ambiance.

Once the wedding ceremony was over, the guests were invited to a candle-lit dinner celebration that featured lots of amazing food (savory for Daniel and lots of sweets for Binh Tam), overflowing wine, great live music, and a bumping dance floor. Later that night, Binh Tam changed into the Vietnamese bridal dress and rocked a traditional headpiece. You could spot me secretly humming to the music beats and dancing among the marry guests. Binh Tam and Daniel, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your Big Day. I wish you all the happiness in the world!
